The IFBB top officials and Middle East bodybuilding elite came to Amman, Jordan, last Thursday to celebrate the first Olympia Amateur Jordan. This is not the first meet of top IFBB athletes in Amman. Looking into the history, we can discover that Amman hosted the 37th IFBB World Bodybuilding Championships exactly 20 years ago, in 1996, won by Jeno Kiss (overall title) and Germany as the best team.
Now Great Bodybuilding came back to Amman, accompanied by its younger, but not less popular “brothers”: Men’s Classic Bodybuilding and Men’s Physique. Bodybuilding is still at a lead, entering 7 athletes more than Men’s Physique. Olympia in Amman provides great opportunity for competing to all Middle East and North Africa athletes, but we can also see competitors from Sudan, Zimbabwe, Armenia and some European countries.
IFBB President Dr. Rafael Santonja arrived to Amman from nearby Doha, Qatar, with great news from the General Assemblies of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) and the Pan-American Sport Organization (PASO) that our sport will be included in the official program of the next 2019 Pan-American Games, what is the final step of IFBB recognition by PASO, initiated last year at their Congress in Washington, DC, USA.
